Very interesting news from Google this week as Google Docs now has pivot table functionality.  While this is a great addition, Google's version of pivot tables seems very basic compared to what Microsoft Excel has.  Excel has had pivot tables for a long time and Excel's pivot tables can work on both relational and multidimensional/OLAP data sources.  Google's pivot tables do not support OLAP data sources.  However, I also heard that Mosha Pasumansky who was one of the inventors of the MDX query language has now moved from Microsoft to Google.  For those who don't know, the MDX query language is the standard query language for OLAP analysis and so this may be a pre-cursor of what is to come at Google.  For more information about pivot tables in Google Docs: http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2011/05/summarize-your-data-with-pivot-tables.html.  For more information on Mosha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosha_Pasumansky.
