Doug Henschen at Intelligent Enterprise wrote a good piece about Microsoft's Kilimanjaro, Gemini, and Madison announcements this week.  You can read it at http://www.intelligententerprise.com/channels/business_intelligence/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=210700171.

"Democratization" or "people-ready" is the theme for Microsoft's BI offerings.  Excel continues to be the centerpiece and with Gemini there will be an Excel add-in (which I am sure will eventually become native) that will add further BI functionality.  The other key of course is that with the in-memory, column-oriented store in Gemini, the interfaces of the MDX Query Language served up by ODBO and XMLA remain.
