Today, Simba announced that its connectivity platform has been licensed by SAP for use with SAP’s Analytics suite. The agreement is comprehensive–On the analytics side, the deal covers SAP’s entire Analytics Division line of products. Quoting today’s press release:

Through this agreement, Simba extends unlimited licensing of the drivers to groups within SAP in support of the SAP BusinessObjects® Business Intelligence (BI) platform, SAP Predictive Analytics software, the SAP Enterprise Performance Management OnDemand solution, and SAP solutions for governance, risk, and compliance. Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers will be available through analytics offerings from SAP, including SAP Lumira® software, SAP Crystal Reports® software and SAP BusinessObjects solutions.

But what’s most exciting is that thanks to ODBC and JDBC connectivity from Simba, SAP’s end users will enjoy direct access to their data on their database–or databases–of choice. The deal effectively standardizes SAP’s Analytics suite on Simba ODBC and JDBC drivers, including all the leading Hadoop and NoSQL data sources:

  • ODBC: Hadoop Hive, Cloudera Impala, Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR), Amazon Redshift, Spark SQL, Couchbase, HBase, Google BigQuery, MongoDB, and Cassandra
  • JDBC: Hadoop Hive, Cloudera Impala, Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR), Amazon Redshift, Spark SQL, Couchbase, MongoDB, and Cassandra

SAP vice president of Analytics Gerrit Kazmaier puts it best:

“It’s important we give our customers the flexibility needed to visualize data from any source they would like, and it has to be as seamless as possible. Leveraging the Simba drivers, data from any ODBC or JDBC source can easily be consumed by our SAP BusinessObjects BI suite.”
