Sequiter Overview
Sequiter Software Inc. (Sequiter) provides database
development software and services. Sequiter offers
CodeBase, a family of high-performance database
programming tools that are used by software developers
worldwide to programmatically access any Xbase-type
database, such as FoxPro and dBase.
Their CodeBase product is a database engine that
offers extremely fast access speeds, versatility
and stability. This engine powers communication
between a software application and its underlying
Xbase database locally, in a shared network environment,
or over the Internet.
The CodeBase family of products supports most
programming languages and operating platforms,
including Windows, Unix, OS/2 and Macintosh.
Data Access Decision
Simba Technologies Inc. (Simba) offers SimbaEngine
SDK a Software Development Toolkit (SDK) that
incorporates a full SQL engine and provides ODBC,
JDBC, OLE DB, ADO, and ADO.NET connectivity to
underlying proprietary data sources.
Sequiter required an ODBC Driver within their
CodeBase engine to allow them to increase accessibility
to their Xbase database.
Sequiter evaluated a variety of ODBC connectivity
solutions before deciding to license SimbaEngine
SDK. Sequiter selected SimbaEngine SDK as it offered
a very high quality technical solution. Sequiter
also made its licensing decision based upon the
fact that Simba is recognized as a global leader
in ODBC data connectivity and has licensed SimbaEngine
SDK to many of the world's largest companies.

Business Challenge
Sequiter's customers are software programmers
who develop custom applications for a variety
of purposes. Many of these developers wish to
design their applications to employ a SQL-based
ODBC interface so that popular ODBC-compliant
products, such as Microsoft Excel, can also be
used to access the underlying xBase database.
As a result, the business objective was clear
- Sequiter required an ODBC interface on its CodeBbase
engine to offer its customers the ability to embed
open data connectivity into their applications,
which employed the CodeBase engine.
By working with Simba, Sequiter leveraged our
core competency in data connectivity to ensure
that the capabilities of the CodeBase engine were
enhanced in a manner that met their business objective.
Solution
The solution that Simba provided to Sequiter
involved the following activities.
Building the ODBC Driver
In using SimbaEngine SDK to build an ODBC Driver
for CodeBase engine Sequiter customized the Data
Records Manager (DRM) layer of the toolkit so
that it would map to the underlying Xbase database.
Simba provided support to Sequiter during all
phases of development.
Testing the ODBC Driver
Once development of the ODBC Driver was completed,
Sequiter conducted an extensive testing program
to ensure performance and functionality specifications
were achieved. Simba continued to provide support
to Sequiter during all phases of this testing
program.
Ongoing Support
Simba continues to fully support Sequiter and
provides ongoing upgrades.
The Benefit to Sequiter
Simba provided Sequiter with a customized ODBC
connectivity solution using SimbaEngine SDK. This
solution allowed Sequiter to offer ODBC connectivity
from CodeBase Engine to their underlying Xbase
database. As a result, Sequiter was able to enable
its customers with the ability to embed ODBC connectivity
into applications developed using CodeBase Engine
to provide for access to popular Windows-based
applications from the underlying Xbase database.
This capability has allowed Sequiter to provide
an enhanced offering that provides increased functionality
valued by the software and application developers
who license their products.
