More on SAP / Teradata partnershipApril 28, 2009 by Amyn Rajan in Business Intelligence Data Warehouses General Interoperability
I was reading an interesting article about the SAP / Teradata partnership entitled "SAP shores up SAP NetWeaver BW with Teradata" at http://searchsap.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid21_gci1354909,00.html?track=NL-137&ad=701408&asrc=EM_NLN_6729880&uid=773158 and a few things struck me:
1. "The move enhances the back end of SAP's business intelligence portfolio" – definitely true because SAP bought the biggest BI player and now is partnering with a king in enterprise data warehousing.
2. "SAP is perhaps unique among the big four BI plays in that it is agnostic about which database platform to do data warehousing on" – The Oracle/Hyperion/Siebel, Microsoft/ProClarity, and IBM/Cognos stacks are all based on and optimized for a particular database. Because SAP does not have a database, they are definitely open and adding Teradata increases scalability in the enterprise.
I will be at Sapphire in May and it will be interesting to see what they say about this partnership then.
