Simba’s MDX Query Language Solution Provides Direct Access from Microsoft Excel PivotTables to Teradata Database
Vancouver, BC - August 19, 2010 - Simba Technologies Inc., industry’s choice for standards-based relational and multi-dimensional data connectivity products, announced today that it delivered a custom MDX/Relational OnLine Analytical Processing (ROLAP) data provider to Teradata, the world’s largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics. This Teradata-branded data connectivity solution, called the Teradata OLAP Connector, enables direct Microsoft Excel PivotTable and robust OnLine Analytical Processing (OLAP)-based Business Intelligence (BI) connectivity to the Teradata database.
“Simba’s MDX query language expertise and its SimbaProvider OLAP SDK product made it possible for Teradata to quickly develop a solution to provide direct Microsoft Excel PivotTable access to the Teradata database,” said Wayne Boyle, Teradata Vice President, Product & Portfolio Management. “Teradata customers can now use popular and familiar business intelligence applications, like Excel PivotTables, to directly access a single view of their data in real-time within a ROLAP environment. The Simba solution provides an OLAP capability that leverages the full scalability and performance of the Teradata database.”
Teradata database allows users to better analyze business operations and drive smarter, faster decisions – providing users with a scalable, single view of their business. Teradata database is renowned for its speed and parallel processing capability.
The open, standards-based ROLAP data provider allows Teradata to support additional OLAP-based BI applications, providing its customers with access to an entirely new class of application for querying, analyzing and reporting on data. The key for interoperability is the use of the MDX query language, which is the standard OLAP query language used by companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and SAP BusinessObjects.
Simba’s ROLAP solution fully leverages Teradata’s technologies and database optimizations – such as its Aggregate Join Indexes (AJIs) – which are vitally important to Teradata’s ROLAP performance and strength for which its customers choose its product. No mid-tier server is needed. The solution makes optimal use of Teradata’s powerful in-database analytics, data aggregations and calculations, and scalability to deliver versatile and potent multi-dimensional functionality and data connectivity to Teradata’s customers.
“By leveraging Simba’s deep MDX expertise and using its commercially available technology, Teradata was best assured that its Excel connectivity solution would support the latest Excel PivotTables BI functionality from Microsoft,” said Amyn Rajan, Simba’s CEO. “Furthermore, Simba’s continued investment in its MDX query language technology ensures future connectivity and compatibility for Teradata with new MDX / OLAP BI applications for years to come.”
