Vancouver, BC – June 28, 2012 – Simba Technologies Inc. – industry’s choice for standards-based relational and multi-dimensional data access and analytics on in-memory, cloud and big data – announced today that Simon Fraser University Computing Science student Holly Becker has been awarded the Simba Technologies Inc. Scholarship in Computing Science.

In acknowledgement of her academic excellence and achievements as an ambassador for women in her field, Ms. Becker has received a cash award of $650 to put towards her education expenses. She is majoring in Computing Science with a concentration in Computing Systems.

“Holly’s achievements reflect the tenets on which this award is based,” said Dave Foster, Simba’s VP of Engineering. “This scholarship follows our commitment to promote gender diversity in computing science while recognizing and assisting B.C.’s brightest talent in attaining their educational goals.”

“Holly has demonstrated outstanding community service and academic engagement,” said Dr. Nimal Rajapakse, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science at SFU. “Awards funded by the generous support of individuals and organizations such as Simba, help recognize and encourage students’ achievements. They provide opportunity and growth for students and help them reach their academic objectives.”

Simba’s SFU scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate female student studying Computing Science full-time at the University who demonstrates outstanding academic performance and documented community/volunteer service. Ms. Becker has represented Computing Science at numerous campus events including SFU Surrey Open Houses and student orientations. She also volunteers with Out on Campus, SFU’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender safe space.

The Simba SFU scholarship is funded by an endowment that Simba established at the university. Simba has established similar endowed scholarships at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. To date, Simba’s contributions to the three universities total $120,000.
