Software Developers

Software developers are assigned to one or more projects where they are expected to investigate their work items, determine one or more implentation solutions and develop or modify the software to achieve the requirement.

The developer must both understand and utilize our development process and be able to work at all phases from business problem, to software architecture, to quality assurance, for projects that match their level of knowledge. The majority of their time will be spent writing and testing application code, preparing and reviewing architecture, design and coding with their teammates.

Mandatory Requirements

• B.Sc. (Computer Science) from Canadian University, or equivalent
• Participation in a Co-op program at their school or 2-5 years experience
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Technical Skills

• C, C++, Java experience **
• Win 32, Unix, Linux experience **
• COM, SQL, ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB, XML, XSLT, XSD
• UML or other formal design methods *

Product Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Manager to join our growing team. This role is all about managing our product lines of leading data connectivity solutions and middleware, researching market and product opportunities, liaising with our engineering teams to develop world-class product, and working closely with our marketing and business development teams to get the products to market. The products you will be responsible for are currently being used by millions of people every day through our ISV customers.

Simba is currently gearing up to launch new products and we’re looking for a product management star with the following attributes.

• Engage internal stakeholders to enhance product management processes and best practices
• Research and analyze market and industry trends for potential opportunities
• Lead identification of new product markets, target customers and product initiatives
• Provide product direction, strategy and definition through effective product roadmaps, Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), product launch plans and product collateral
• Gather product intelligence through customer feedback
• Lead and drive product development initiatives and launches

• Three to five years product management experience in a software / technology company
• Strong technical background and aptitude to learn quickly
• Strong communication skills with fluent proficiency in English
• Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills
• Experience influencing others without direct authority

• Knowledge of Pragmatic Marketing Framework
• Experience or knowledge of data connectivity standards (i.e. ODBC, JDBC, SQL, MDX, ODBO, XMLA, etc.)
• Product management experience for Software Development Kits (SDKs)

Software QA Lead

We're looking for a Software QA Lead to join our growing team. The Software QA Lead is an individual with a bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, and with knowledge of a wide variety of technological domains. The position will rely on your experience with the Systems Development Life Cycle for systems developed using C++, C#, Java and C. A thorough understanding of the various core technologies of Microsoft Windows, Unix, Linux and the Macintosh is crucial. A good understanding of the test requirements for embedded and database software would be ideal.

You will have expert knowledge and practical experience in the Software QA process. Additionally, you will have a proven track record of leading a team of QA specialists for multiple simultaneous projects. You will be expected to develop, establish, integrate and evolve the QA process in conjunction with Orbital’s Software Engineering groups to ensure on-going improvements in the quality of delivered software.

The QA Lead role will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the QA group
• QA resource allocation for multiple projects
• Enforcement of QA process and procedures
• Review and approval of test plans and test cases
• Continuous monitoring and mentoring of QA team

Required skills and experience:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Expert understanding of software quality processes and tools
• Expert understanding of core technologies of Windows, Unix, Linux and Mac OS X
• 2+ years of QA Lead experience
• 2+ years of Leading team of 4 or 5 QA specialists
• 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing test strategies, plans and assets
• 5+ years of experience in working with Software Configuration Management tools and build systems
• 2+ years of experience with Relational Databases and SQL
• Proven ability to work in conjunction with SW engineering teams

Assets:

• Experience with embedded software – especially Symbian via S60 or UIQ
• Experience with ODBC and OLAP products and software
• Experience in C++, C#, Java and C development
• Experience in working on simultaneous projects spanning different domains
