I was reading an interesting post by Harlan Smith at Hitachi about Big Data Analytics: Trends to Watch For in 2012. He has a nice overview of big data in the enterprise and he also nicely discusses user-friendly tools for Big Data. There are a lot of SQL-based tools for viewing, reporting, and analyzing data which are very user friendly. If the upcoming crop of connectors for accessing big data enable us to bridge these user friendly SQL-based tools to things like Hadoop, Cassandra, and Mongo, then Big Data will become mainstream much faster than if we need to build a whole new set of tools. The key is bridging between the SQL and NoSQL worlds.
