I saw a couple of good retrospectives in the last couple of weeks to frame the present era of Hadoop.

TheHive held another great session a couple of weeks ago with a talk by Doug Cutting, the father of Hadoop, on “The Future of Data”.  (Recall that TheHive held a great panel last January with all the Hadoop vendors.)

Doug’s talk was quite short (38 min) but it was a concise chronology of Hadoop sprinkled with his reflection. Worth a bit of time in front of your smart TV.

Similarly, Hortonworks’ Shaun Connolly did a webinar on HDP. Looking past the big idea of Data Lake, Shaun provided a great summary of the past year for Apache Hive. Again, well worth your 20 minutes.
