Vancouver, BC – October 7, 2008 – Simba Technologies Inc., the industry leader in both multi-dimensional and relational data connectivity solutions, announced today that it has donated an additional $10,000 to the University of Victoria to fund a second scholarship in Computing Science. This donation is added to the company’s earlier $10,000 donation, which established the first Simba Technologies Inc. Scholarship in Computer Science at the University.
Simba Technologies’ scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduate Computer Science or Software Engineering students with outstanding academic performance and demonstrated leadership in or out of the classroom. Both scholarships are funded in perpetuity by Simba’s endowment to the University. Preference is also given to female candidates in an effort to help promote increased enrollment by women in the Computer Science and Software Engineering programs.
“With this additional donation, Simba’s second Computing Science Scholarship at UVic will help students with their education and living expenses by providing a cash award, similar to the first scholarship that was established in 2005,” said Bill Dorfmann, Simba’s Vice President of Engineering. “Together, both Computing Science scholarships are a testament of our support for UVic’s excellent Computer Science program and recognition of the contribution its students make to industry upon graduation. Simba heavily recruits graduates from UVic, in addition to providing co-op work experience opportunities to students, and we recognize the difference that financial assistance can make in gaining a first-rate education.”
“Generous gifts in support of our students help contribute to academic success,” said Erin Sebastian, Administrative Officer for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Victoria. “Simba’s scholarships are further evidence of the industry support that our engineering programs receive and further recognition of our students’ talents and their contribution to industry. We thank Simba for its continued commitment to help support and foster our students.”
The Simba Technologies Inc. Scholarships in Computing Science are administered by the Student Awards and Financial Aid office at the University of Victoria. Additional information about the scholarships can be obtained there.
Simba has set up similar endowments and scholarships at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. To date, Simba’s endowments funding scholarships at all three universities totals over $50,000.
