More Flexibility, Better Performance: Data Scientists Using Java Applications Can Now SQL-query Spark Data via the JDBC API
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA – June 16, 2015 – Today Simba Technologies Inc.®, the worldwide leader in Big Data connectivity extended its pioneering leadership in the Spark connectivity space, and announced the release of the new Simba Apache Spark Driver for JDBC with SQL Connector. The new Spark JDBC driver with SQL Connector gives data scientists greater flexibility and faster connectivity for Java applications accessing Spark via the JDBC API.
“Simba has delivered data access solutions for cluster computing platforms since the early days of Shark,” notes Arsalan Tavakoli-Shiraji, Vice President of Customer Engagement and Business Development at Databricks. “With this release, Simba extends its best-in-class data access connectivity, enabling data professionals using Java apps to take full advantage of Spark via the JDBC API.”
The new Simba Spark JDBC Driver with SQL Connector offers direct SQL BI connectivity to Spark via the JDBC API. It efficiently maps SQL to Spark SQL by transforming an application’s SQL query into the equivalent form in Spark SQL, enabling direct standard SQL-92 access to Apache Spark distributions. The driver delivers full SQL application functionality, and real-time analytic and reporting capabilities to users.
“The Simba Spark Driver for JDBC offers a complete implementation of the JDBC API,” says George Chow, Simba Technologies CTO. “With the full JDBC API at their disposal, data scientists now have the optimal experience for their applications right out-of-the-box.”
The Simba Spark JDBC Driver release brings new benefits to enterprise Spark data access:
- SQL access: Direct SQL-query access to Spark data from Java applications like SAP Lumira, Pentaho, or SQuirreL.
- Performance: 2X+ faster performance than open-source alternatives.
- Breadth: The Simba Spark JDBC Driver with SQL Connector is the most complete JDBC driver available, and enables users to leverage the capabilities of the full JDBC API.
Apache Spark is the fast, general framework for large-scale data-processing in a cluster-computing environment. It was originally developed at the University of California, Berkeley AMPLab. Spark is available commercially from Databricks, developer of the Databricks Cloud service, and sponsor of this week’s Spark Summit 2015 event in San Francisco.
The Simba Spark Driver for JDBC with SQL Connector—and all Simba Technologies’ connectivity drivers—are available for individual, enterprise, and OEM licensing. For more information and to sign up for a free trial, visit http://www.simba.com/connectors.
