In this session, Simba provides an overview of new and popular functionality built into Excel 2010. You’ll see how to create a PivotTable with a live connection to Oracle Database OLAP Option. Simba will then demonstrate how to use Excel to drill down into a dimension, then filter and analyze data with trend icon sets, conditional formatting and Excel 2010 slicers and Sparklines. You can even drill ‘through’ to the underlying relational data from the fact table or create fabulous PivotCharts hot connected to Oracle OLAP.

This two-hour hands-on tutorial shows how executives and BI users can visually create illuminating ad hoc BI queries and build insightful dashboards natively in Microsoft Excel directly against Oracle Database OLAP Option. Attendees try the increasingly excellent data visualization and refreshable dashboarding of Excel 2007 and 2010, including drill-through Slicers and Sparklines. You’ll also learn how to make the underlying connection through Simba’s MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP driver and how to create hot-linked tables and graphs in Microsoft Office presentations.
Conference Session #265: “One Version of the Truth Doesn’t Mean One BI Tool” April 14, 2011 from 11:00am–12:00pm
As a result of corporate breadth, mergers or acquisitions, enterprises may have disparate brands of reporting tools – such as SAP BusinessObjects, Cognos and Microsoft Excel – installed on various users’ desktops. While there may be a corporate standard in place, users who are trained in other BI client applications still prefer to use those. Why throw away all the training that has been invested in them? Learn how a simple, cost-effective client-side driver allows your organization to use the BI reporting tools that are already purchased and in place directly against your Oracle Database OLAP Option cubes, ensuring a single source of the truth across your enterprise.
