Simba’s MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP Enables Direct Connectivity between Microsoft Excel and Oracle Database OLAP Option

Simba’s MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP product enables the direct connection from popular BI applications – such as Microsoft Excel PivotTables – to Oracle Database 11g OLAP Option. The product is based upon Simba’s widely deployed MDX 2005 Query Language technology.

MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP enables users to take advantage of native Excel PivotTable and PivotChart functionality to analyze data stored within their Oracle OLAP database. The solution securely gives users control over their own BI reporting using Excel’s extensive, easy-to-use formatting options and dashboard presentation capabilities. Users are able to perform self-service BI to quickly find and present answers to their important, ad hoc business questions. The direct Excel to Oracle connection provided by the solution also ensures accurate and timely reporting by always accessing the most current data. The user interface is actually Microsoft Excel, so no special training on new BI tools is needed.

Microsoft has invested heavily in Office features for enabling BI on the desktop, and many enterprises have embraced Excel for BI. This session provides an overview of new and popular functionality built into Excel 2010. You’ll see how to create a PivotTable with a live connection to Oracle Database OLAP Option. This session will then demonstrate how to use Excel to drill down into a dimension, then filter and analyze data with trend icon sets, conditional formatting, and Excel 2010 slicers and sparklines. You can even drill ‘through’ to the underlying relational data from the fact table, or create insightful PivotCharts hot connected to Oracle OLAP.
