Conference Session #232: “Using Excel Direct-to-Oracle OLAP for Business Intelligence Dashboards”

April 20th, 2010 from 11:45 AM – 12:15 PM

Excel PivotTables provide great, multi-dimensional cross-tab display and navigation for Business Intelligence, allowing users to slice and dice for ad hoc query, reporting and dashboarding. Attendees will see how they can use a low-cost, two-tier solution, with the increasing BI functionality of Excel 2007/2010, directly against Oracle OLAP cubes. Attendees will learn how Excel PivotTables allow regular business users to query rich analytical content, such as hierarchical navigation and aggregation, prior-year comparison, conditional formatting, and product ranking/share. New ‘MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP’ filtering features are also demonstrated. The excellent dashboarding capabilities offered by PivotCharts and other visualization features of Excel 2007/2010 are shown. Finally, server-side cell formatting and SharePoint-hosted Excel Services will be discussed. If your organization needs a cost effective, easy-to-deploy BI solution that includes Microsoft Office integration – a solution that requires no special Excel ‘add-in’ training – then this is a must see presentation.

Hands-On Lab Session #217: “Learn Excel PivotTables Direct-to-Oracle 11g OLAP to Gain Up-to-Date Insight and Business Intelligence”

Following the theme of Simba’s Technical Talk at COLLABORATE 10, this hands-on lab will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn how to connect and use Microsoft Excel PivotTables with Oracle OLAP cubes. Attendees will work with the products hands-on in a lab environment, following along as Simba presenters show the power of an Excel / Oracle solution.
