A Market First for Mac Connectivity: Latest Version of Industry-Standard ODBC 3.8-Compatible Driver Extends Cassandra to Mac Platform
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA – January 15, 2015 – Today Simba Technologies Inc.®, the worldwide leader in Big Data connectivity, introduced version two of its industry-leading ODBC driver for the Apache Cassandra high-performance distributed database platform. This release breaks new ground in cross-platform connectivity: The Simba Technologies Apache Cassandra ODBC Driver is the first to extend Cassandra data access to the Mac platform. In addition, the new driver enables direct SQL query translation to the Cassandra Query Language (CQL), offering users unparalleled performance at scale.
“Data analysts need to be able to get at their data using SQL, even if that data is stored in a NoSQL Cassandra cluster,” says Simba Technologies CEO Amyn Rajan. “Those analysts need more than simple data access: The new Simba Technologies Cassandra ODBC Driver can take SQL queries and actually translate them to the underlying CQL, delivering SQL query capability for NoSQL Cassandra data stores, conveniently packaged in the industry-standard ODBC driver.”
The Simba Technologies Apache Cassandra ODBC Driver offers direct, universal ODBC 3.8 data access to Cassandra data stores via Cassandra’s native API, with no extraction. Companies rely on Simba Technologies for ODBC connectivity. For example, Tableau Software has certified the Simba Technologies Cassandra ODBC Driver for Cassandra connectivity.
This version two of the driver includes compelling new features:
- Mac Support – Lets Mac users connect directly to Cassandra data clusters.
- ODBC 3.8 Support – First ODBC 3.8-compliant Cassandra driver; takes advantage of features in the latest ODBC 3.8 standard, including asynchronous execution.
- SQL Query Capability – Enables SQL queries on NoSQL Cassandra data.
- Cassandra 2.x Compatibility – Leverages the faster performance and improved security of Cassandra V2.x.
- CQL Pass-through Capability – Delivers native CQL3 or CQL2 data access to clustered Cassandra data, enabling users to create queries in CQL or SQL.
“Cassandra’s decentralized model provides scalable storage, screamingly-fast read/write access, and best-in-class fault tolerance,” notes Simba Technologies CTO George Chow. “Pairing Cassandra’s high-performance capabilities with the Simba Cassandra ODBC Driver’s seamless connectivity gives users universal access to multi-node-cluster data.”
DataStax is the industry-leading Cassandra solution distributor, and has licensed and distributed Simba ODBC technology since 2013. “At DataStax, we are privileged to have an active and highly innovative partner network,” says Matt Rollender, vice president, infrastructure and ecosystem development at DataStax. “Simba helps enable DataStax Enterprise users to connect database clusters with BI tools of their choice.”
